GTA Contractors Blog

So, you’ve decided that you want to renovate and/or upgrade your home. Great choice!

After all, your home is your sanctuary; why wouldn’t you spend your time, money, and effort into it and take pride and ownership in your home. Living in the GTA is a wonderful place to live, as you obviously know. Why not make it even better by hiring a contractor who can transform your home into the house of your dreams?!

Before jumping on the bandwagon and allowing us to set you up with the perfect contractor there is some research you will need to do (don’t worry, it’s not that bad)!

I’ll start with the fun homework; visuals! It’s a good idea to have an idea of what you want to achieve. What style do you like? What type of style are you going for? Is there a trend you want to maintain in your home? Search Pinterest, magazines, anything that will give you and us an idea of what your vision is. We want to bring your vision to life and the best way to do that is by giving us a visual of what is in your mind and in your dreams.

Secondly, think about functionality. How do you want a specific room to work? For example, is your kitchen set up for cooking, storage and prep, or is it more laid back, with an emphasis on entertainment? Is your dining room formal or cozy and chic? It’s good to have an idea of what the main purpose for each room is.

We understand your hiring a contractor because you’re seeking out a professional. We don’t expect you to be an artist by any means, but going back to visuals, it might be a good idea to make a mock floor plan.  Maybe run this idea by an architect or designer to get another expert opinion as well.

We stand behind our quality, work, and contractors. We know we do a great job, at a good price, but we don’t just want you to take our word for it. We encourage you to go out and get two other quotes, on top of ours. We want you to feel confident in your decision, and the only way in doing so, is by getting other quotes and doing some research on your own.

Some things to keep in mind when going out and collecting quotes is this;

  • Add 20% to that quote, right away. I’m not saying it will always go over budget, but sometimes things come up during renovation that weren’t always known of from the beginning. It’s better to be safe than sorry and plan for that from the beginning.
  • Ask how long the renovation will take. Your idea of a timeframe could very well be different from the contractors. Find out their time line and plan your life around that timeframe accordingly.
  • Permits! Some renovations require permits, and others don’t. Find out if yours does! You don’t want to get halfway through your renovation only to find out it’s being halted to a stop because no permit was ever obtained.

I know it sounds like a lot, but doing your research and having an idea of what you want is the first step to getting the room of your dreams. Your job is to give us visuals of what you want, our job is to make your dreams a reality!
